ArtsTrain recruiting

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

It’s that time again already! Artstrain is recruiting new participants for its ‘08/’09 course.

ArtsTrain is the only youth drama facilitation training programme in Ireland. It has been running since 1999 with many of those who have graduated currently employed in the youth theatre/drama sector. At the moment former ArtsTrain participants are working with Portlaoise Youth Theatre, Clondalkin Youth Theatre, Roundabout Youth Theatre, Roscommon Co. Youth Theatre and Co. Carlow Youth Theatre to name but a few.

The aim of the course is to provide training in drama facilitation & youth arts and to develop an understanding of good youth theatre practice. Participants receive a FETAC level 6 qualification in drama facilitation. ArtsTrain is committed to raising the standard of youth theatre practice and in the past many youth theatre leaders of varying experience have benefited from the training.

The next course will begin in September and run for one academic year. This could be an opportunity for you to formalise your understanding of youth theatre practice and gain a qualification in the field. Equally it could also be an opportunity for less experienced leaders or senior members to equip themselves with the skills and experience necessary to deliver high quality work. ArtsTrain is also open to those who are not currently working in the sector but who are interested in a career in drama facilitation. Participants have come from a range of backgrounds including youth work, professional theatre and graduates from academic courses seeking practical expertise.

It is a full-time course and is funded through the FAS Local Training Initiative. Participants receive a weekly training allowance equivalent to a social welfare payment, also included is a small travel allowance. An accommodation allowance is also available for those who may have to relocate in order to participate on the course. Besides employment in youth theatre, participants have gone on to work in a wide range of Arts related areas. Visit the ArtsTrain page to find out more. You can also read what they have said about their experience on the course.

If you or anyone you know are interested in finding out more or getting an application form, please contact us by email or on 01-8781301. Closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 11th July.
