Eilis Mullan Bursaries 08

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Details of the 2008 Eilis Mullan Bursaries are now available.

The Bursaries were created to support the professional development of youth theatre directors.

For a youth theatre director it is a golden opportunity to take time out and do that thing you have always wanted to do, whether it be working with a theatre director you admire, participating in a training course that really interests you in Ireland or abroad.

By looking at the previous recipients you will see how broad and flexible the bursaries are. Some have been used to support further study at third level, a couple of YT directors have used their bursary to travel as far as the USA to participate in high quality training. One of the recipients last year is just beginning a directing mentorship with Druid Theatre Company.

Bursaries can also be used to bring an outside director into a youth theatre or for the development of a creative idea with a youth theatre. This is the purpose Valerie Coyne used her bursary for when she worked with Tallaght Youth Theatre in 2006.

The application process is really simple:

Send us an outline of your proposal including:

Details of how you would use the bursary if you were successful?

How would this benefit you as a youth theatre director?

How would it benefit your youth theatre?

A timescale for the training/study/development of the project

A breakdown of the costs involved.

More information is available in the training section of the website

Send this proposal, along with a copy of your CV, to Orlaith McBride by e-mail or by post to NAYD, 34 Upper Gardiner Street, Dublin 1. The closing date is Friday 18th April.

Good luck!

Katie

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

We are holding a special screening of the documentary made about the National Youth Theatre 2007 this Saturday (23rd Feb) in the IFI. ‘In The Circle’ follows the cast of The Caucasian Chalk Circle from their very first meeting right through the 4 weeks of rehearsals and the performance week. The cast was made up of youth theatre members from all over Ireland who shared an unforgettable experience.

The documentary has been created from hours of footage and is edited by our very own John Taite.

We especially recommend that youth theatre members interested in auditioning for this year’s NYT come along to see the documentary as it will give them a taste of what it is all about.

Venue: IFI, Eustace Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2.
